Ralph Allen has been a sailor, corporate treasurer, and a jail chaplain. He served in the Korean Conflict for three years and has the UN Service Medal, Korean Ribbon with six combat stars, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Allen was the first official jail chaplain in Sedgwick County Jail, appointed in 1979 and serving for nearly twenty years. He has been awarded the Liberty Bell Award from the Wichita Young Lawyer's Assoc., 1985; The Citizens Recognition Award from the Kansas Correctional Assoc, 1987; and the Bronze Medal for Outstanding Servce by the Sheriff's Dept., 1988. Allen is the author of four books, more than fifty short stories, and many poems. He lives with his wife Verla in Wichita. They have five children and twelve grandchildren.
